How to Start Brahmacharya Life | Dheeraj Patidar
Om to all my spiritual friends 🙏

In today’s article, we have provided you with in-depth information on how to start the life of Brahmacharya. If you truly wish to follow Brahmacharya from your heart and free your life from mental and physical problems, then this article is extremely important for you. If you follow all the principles mentioned in this article, you can become a complete and unwavering Brahmachari.

If you are thinking of taking a new step towards Brahmacharya due to any physical or mental problems, then make sure to read this article till the end.

“How to start the Brahmacharya life” may seem like a simple question, but it is actually the very first and most important step in the journey of Brahmacharya.

Many of us decide to practice Brahmacharya to get relief from physical or mental problems by living a disciplined life, but in the end, we often get stuck at one point — where to start.

Friends, the very first step in Brahmacharya is to understand its true meaning.

Brahmacharya is not just about “abstaining from sex or conserving semen,” but it is a complete lifestyle — a complete way of living.

Brahm’ means the supreme truth and ‘Charya’ means to walk — that is, walking towards Brahman, moving towards that supreme divine power. It is a disciplined, pure, and God-oriented life.

In Brahmacharya, it is not only the body that is controlled, but also thoughts, speech, and behavior. Many of our friends think that if they have controlled their semen, they are following Brahmacharya, but that is not true at all. This is a very vast subject, a complete integration of a good and truthful life.

Before stepping into the life of Brahmacharya, it is important to do self-introspection by asking yourself a few questions, such as:

  • Am I tired of being addicted to lust?
  • Do I want to progress in spirituality?
  • Do I want to increase my energy, meditation, and inner strength?
  • Do I want to feel happiness in life all the time?

Until the inner reason is clear, Brahmacharya will remain only an “effort” and not a permanent practice. Whatever work you do in life, unless it is dedicated to a good purpose, your mind will feel unhappy and helpless.

Brahmacharya helps channel the energy spent on lust in the right direction so that you can give 100% dedication to whatever you want to achieve in life. Otherwise, there are millions of people who ruin their lives due to lust and then blame God.

You must have also felt that the intense pull of lust is the reason why you suffered from physical and mental problems. But if you have realized the truth, then move towards Brahmacharya and make your life happy and blissful.

Lust is born not in the body, but in the mind. That is why the first step is to change the direction of your mind. This is where your Brahmacharya journey begins. Before taking physical steps, you need to be mentally prepared.

Avoid obscene content (porn, provocative social media), read pure and spiritual literature — like the Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, Yoga Vashishtha, and biographies of great souls like Swami Vivekananda, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Tulsidas, etc. — these habits will transform your mind, and when the mind is right, the body will naturally follow.

The most effective way to control the mind is meditation and chanting of the Divine Name (Naam Jap). Spend 15–30 minutes every morning and evening chanting “Om” or meditating.

If you face difficulty in the beginning, focusing on your breath is the simplest method — try it out.

Naam Jap is a very powerful tool to conquer the mind and bring it under control. In the beginning, it will be difficult, the mind will wander, but one day you will surely succeed. As they say, “Not in a single day, but a day will surely come.” So just take the first step.

You should definitely watch my Naam Jap video, in which I share the miracles that happened in my life through Naam Jap. You can find the video on our YouTube channel.

I have already explained how to start Brahmacharya, but to continue it, you need to take some further steps, such as:

Yoga or Exercise:

Whenever you conserve your semen in the body, it is essential to transform that energy, otherwise you may feel more disturbed. Semen is a store of energy, and suppressing it in the body can lead to harmful consequences. That is why it is important to regularly practice yoga, workouts, or exercise to properly channel and transform this energy.

Adequate Sleep:

For the body to function smoothly and repair itself, it is essential to get proper sleep. If you do not sleep and wake up on time, your practice of Brahmacharya will not be effective. Aim for 6 to 8 hours of quality sleep. Ideally, go to bed between 9–10 PM and wake up between 4–5 AM.

Sattvic Diet:

As they say, “As is the food, so are the thoughts.” This is 100% true. The energy in our body comes from the food we eat, and that energy also forms the basis of our thoughts. Therefore, what we eat and the intention with which we eat it directly affects our mind and thoughts. That is why a Sattvic (pure and wholesome) diet is essential.

Whenever a person falls ill, the doctor advises them to eat light and easily digestible food because that is best for the body. Yet, we often return to eating pizza, burgers, or snacks like kachori and samosa. Hence, pay attention to your diet, as it shapes both your body and your mind.

I have shared a Brahmacharya diet routine with you, and you can find the video on our YouTube channel.

Association (Sangati):

As the company, so the character. The people you spend time with shape your nature and your life. Leave the company of wrong or harmful people as soon as possible. Avoid those with provocative, materialistic, or disruptive thinking. Always stay close to Brahmacharis, spiritual seekers, or satsang groups. This will help purify your thoughts. A good life is always built on good thoughts.

Be mindful of what you consume on WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, etc., as it also affects your mind. Consume the right content, read good books that make you a better person.

Do Not Fear Falling:

True courage is getting up every time you fall. If your Brahmacharya is ever broken, don’t blame yourself; treat it as a learning process and move forward. Life itself is a journey of learning, so enjoy this journey.

Take a deep breath and restart your Brahmacharya. Falling is not a sin, but remaining fallen is the true sin.

Small Goals, Long Journey:

In the beginning, start with small targets — 7 days, then 21 days, then 40 days. Small milestones prevent discouragement, while setting a big goal at once can overwhelm you. Do not celebrate every day’s success excessively; calmly prepare for the next day. Overexcitement can sometimes lead the mind astray. Therefore, remain balanced — neither too sad nor overly excited.

That’s all for today. See you in the next article.

Wishing you all good health and a fulfilling life.
