| The real meaning of Dharma |
This article will explain the real meaning of “Dharma.” We have exposed many misconceptions about Dharma and encouraged you to understand Dharma in the right way.
Dharma Is Not Religion Groups
Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, and Christian are not Dharma.
They are just groups of civilizations where people are divided based on their thoughts and facts.
You have never seen the word “Hindu Dharma” in the Gita, because Krishna spoke about living a life filled with Dharma, not about calling yourself Hindu and dividing humanity.
People Misunderstand Dharma
Many people think Dharma is only about worship, temples, mosques, or rituals.
But the real meaning of Dharma is much wider and deeper.
Real Meaning of Dharma
The true meaning of Dharma is “Duty.”
It means fulfilling our moral and social responsibilities in life.
It is not linked to any specific community or religion.
It is the personal and family duty of every individual.
Examples of Dharma
- Showing love, respect, and protection toward mother and sisters is a son’s and brother’s Dharma.
- Behaving respectfully, obediently, and responsibly with father is a son’s Dharma.
- Staying united and supportive with siblings is the Dharma of brotherhood.
- Treating wife with love, honesty, and equality is a husband’s Dharma.
- Living with truth, justice, compassion, and service in society is a citizen’s Dharma.
Real Dharma lifts humanity; it does not divide it.
Protecting women, supporting truth, and showing compassion to all beings is real Dharma.
People Have Forgotten Their Dharma
Today many people work against humanity and then proudly say they belong to some religion. Such people do not deserve to be part of any religion or caste. They behave like animals.
Why are our daughters and women not safe today?
Because Dharma has died. People have forgotten their duty toward them.
Every house now has a “Ravana” who exploits others yet considers himself religious.
Dharma Has Become an External Show
In today’s world, people have made Dharma an external show. But real practice is looking within, self-observation, and living with self-control.
People use their bodies only for pleasure, while this body is actually the greatest tool for self-realization.
Our sages purified the body through discipline and Brahmacharya to move toward the soul.
But today’s generation has forgotten this.
Brahmacharya, once a symbol of strength and divinity, is now seen as outdated.
People Worship Outside but Ignore Within
People pretend to be religious—going to temples, ringing bells, standing in aarti—
but they do not have the courage to look within.
Inside, they will see ego, desires, deceit, and falsehood.
Where is true Dharma then?
True Dharma Purifies the Self
Real Dharma cleans the soul, controls the mind, and teaches discipline over the senses. mBut today people decorate the outside—new clothes, big rituals, and sermons — while the “self” inside is still impure.
We are not truly religious unless we purify our thoughts, desires, and actions.
Brahmacharya is not just a rule; it is a complete lifestyle that aligns body, mind, and soul.
Purpose of Human Life
Those who do not understand why the human body is given and how it can unite with the Supreme Power are unknowingly working against humanity.
You may read many scriptures, earn many degrees, gain money and fame — but inner peace will come only when you recognize your real Dharma.
Krishna’s Teaching About Dharma
Shri Krishna clearly said: A person becomes a Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya, or Shudra not by birth,
but by qualities, nature, and actions.
That’s all for today.
